Abstract

1,088,888. Textile treating apparatus. PROCTOR & SCHWARTZ, Inc. May 4, 1965 [May 14, 1964], No. 18647/65. Heading D1L. [Also in Division F4] In apparatus for heat treating batts or webs B of fibrous material, the web passes on endless, foraminous conveyors (10, 12, 14) through a treatment chamber in a series of parallel, superposed runs, each run having a series of air distribution boxes 60 associated therewith and extending transversely of the direction of conveyance of the web. Each box has an elongated outlet slot 71 directing the treatment medium flow towards the web, which flow is diverted by adjustably elongated baffles 80, 82 which openly diverge towards the web to effect a predetermined flow pattern of the medium. The pattern is such that flow to zone X is less than to zones Y and Z in order to effect a slight lofting of the web and to prevent compression. The angle of divergence of the baffles 80, 82 is variable by fasteners 87 in an arcuate slot 86. The boxes 60 open from a common supply header and diverge towards the closed end to effect substantially uniform velocity along the length of the slot 71. The medium is recirculated. In order to prevent leakage, air curtain seals may be provided at the feed and delivery ends.
