In a bit having rollers 1, 2, the roller 1 has a greater overall diameter than the roller 2 and cuts a groove 14 in the bottom 13 of the hole being drilled. The rollers may have hard inserts 11 and hard facings 12. The effective surface 9, 10 of the rollers may be spherical or conical.
