In a socket connector having three linearly arranged rigid contact pins 23, 24, 26, two pins 23 and 24, only one of which is connected to a lead wire, are bridged by a switch. The socket body 30 is of plastics material and is generally rectangular comprising at least two walls 28, (29) which extend integrally from the cover 2 of a closed cylindrical body which houses the switch and the bases 7, 8, 25 of the pins. The side wall 3 of the cylindrical housing, from which mounting fingers 4 project, may be integral with either the cover 2 or a base 5 and in the latter case may be metallic. The switch comprises a pivoted arm (11) (Fig. 4, not shown) with a bridging contact (9) which can be moved into engagement with the contacts 7, 8 by operation of a member 17 which projects through the side wall 3. Member 17 is connected to the arm 11 by a torsion spring (19). An earthing pin, from which a lead extends through a slot in the socket housing, may be aligned with the pins 23, 24, 26. A plastics plug connector (Fig. 8, not shown) with a row of contact-carrying openings (32) has recesses (34) for snap-fitting with detents 35 formed on opposite inner walls of the socket, correct coupling being ensured by the rounding of two pairs of corresponding corners of the coupling parts.
