Abstract

a ,o -Dihydroxysiloxanes are made by reacting cyclosiloxanes with water in the presence of catalysts at 220 DEG to 280 DEG C. and a superatmospheric pressure of up to 30 kg./sq. cm. Catalysts specified are KOH and H3PO4. In a typical Example (1), water, KOH and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane were heated to 250 DEG C. in an utoclave, the pressure being 18 kg./sq. cm., to yield an a ,o -dihydroxydimethylpolysiloxane having a molecular wt. of 7000.
