Abstract
Novel compounds of the pregnane series of the general formula <FORM:1086462/C2/1> in which R1 is hydrogen or the acyl radical <FORM:1086462/C2/2> in which L indicates -(CH2)n-, where n is a number from 1-6 and Y indicates hydrogen, chlorine, -COOH or an aliphatic or heterocyclic amine radical, R2 is <FORM:1086462/C2/3> , <FORM:1086462/C2/4> or = O and X indicates at least one carbon to carbon double bond in ring A in the 1(2), 2(3) or 3(4) position, the rings A and B being either cis- or translinked at the carbon atom 5, and the salts thereof with pharmacologically acceptable acids or bases are obtained in a process wherein in a compound of the general formula <FORM:1086462/C2/5> in which R1 and R2 have the significance set out above, the hydroxy group in 3a - or 3b -position is eliminated by a method of steroid chemistry in which the said compound is either treated directly with a water eliminating agent, such as phosphorus oxychloride, or first converted into a 3-sulpho-ester, such as the p-toluene sulphonic acid ester, and then from the resulting ester the corresponding sulphonic acid split out, and the resulting compound unsaturated in ring A, depending on the desired significance of R1, if necessary is hydrolysed and re-esterified on the group -OR1.
