Abstract

1,086,444. Selective printing. DATA PRODUCTS CORPORATION. June 13, 1966 [June 11, 1965], No. 26303/66. Heading B6F. Hammer impression arrangements; type-wheel machines,-A selective printer having a continuously rotating printing drum 10 is provided with a plurality of printing hammers 12, one for each character position and each hammer is formed by a hollow casing 20, one end of which is provided with an impression head 26 and the other end with an extension 44, whereby the hammer is arranged for pivotal movement about its centre of percussion constituted by the intersection of supporting springs 28, 30 whose one end is potted in the casing and attached to a single-turn coil 22 disposed within the casing. Supporting springs 28, 30 are located with their ends 36, 38 in blocks 40 abutting V-grooves 72 (Fig. 2), 76 in blocks 46, 40. Ends of coils are attached to plugs 80, 82 located in recesses 74 of block 46. To effect impression current is induced in coil 22 which sets up a magnetic field which is acting at right-angles to the magnetic field generated by permanent magnets 96, which are spaced between the casings 20. In another embodiment the extension 44 is dispensed with and the centre of percussion located by pins 114, 116 (Fig. 6) set in rubber annuli 124.
