Abstract
1,085,302. Bowden mechanism; metal tubes. AMERICAN CHAIN & CABLE CO. Inc. Jan. 18, 1965, No. 2090/65. Headings F2K and F2P. The outer casing of a push-pull cable comprises a series of long-lay helically wound alternate round and trapezoidal wires 30, 34 held by an outer short-lay helically wound metal strip 36 which in manufacture is swaged against the wires 30, 34, the gaps between successive round wires 30 forming helical tracks for balls 40, engaging the push-pull core element 39. Each ball 40 is mounted in a radial opening in a tubular cage 23 having convex ends mating with the concave ends of adjacent cages or spacers 43 for flexibility of the cage or cage and spacer assembly. A sheath of polyethylene 37 is extruded about the strip 36 for waterproofing.
