Abstract
1,085,356. Universal joints. B.R.D. CO. Ltd. June 3, 1966 [July 6, 1965], No. 28484/65. Heading F2U. A universal joint arrangement between the steering wheel and road wheels of a vehicle comprises a yoke 13 fast with the steering wheel shaft and connected by a pivot pin 16 to a swivel block 22 within which a pin 19 is rotatably mounted. A head 21 of the pin 19 is bored to receive a pivot pin 17 of a yoke 14 which is connected to a shaft of the steering box by a Hooke's joint. The Hooke's joint comprises an intermediate member having a pair of offset throughbores at right angles to each other to receive pivot pins of driving and driven yokes. The joint between yokes 13, 14 permits axial movement of the shaft connected to either yoke regardless of the inclination between the shafts.
