Abstract
Novel compounds of the general formula <FORM:1084439/C2/1> (wherein n is 1, 2, or 3, and R1 and R2 each represent a C1- 8 alkyl, C7- 12 aralkyl, phenyl, mono- or di-(C1- 8 alkyl or alkoxy) phenyl or mono- or di-halophenyl radical, but are not both phenyl or substituted phenyl, or R1 and R2 jointly represent an alkylene, oxoalkylene, thioalkylene or N-(C1- 8 alkyl)-azoalkylene radical forming with N a 5-7 membered heterocyclic ring) are prepared by condensing p-benzoquinone with a cycloalkenamine of the formula <FORM:1084439/C2/2> The products may be esterified with C1- 6 alkanoic acids (or derivatives thereof), and both the free phenols and the esters may be converted to acid addition salts, or to N-oxides by treatment with a peroxidizing agent. Cycloalkenamines of the second general formula above are prepared by reacting cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone or cycloheptanone with a secondary amine R1.NH.R2.
