1,084,165. 4,5-Seco-steroids. ROUSSELUCLAF. March 24, 1965 [March 25, 1964], No. 58324/66. Divided out of 1,084,164. Heading C2C. Novel 18,19 - bis - nor - 4,5 - seco - pregnanes having the formulµ wherein R is an alkyl group having 2-18 carbon atoms, are obtained in a process which comprises reacting a 5-enamino-13#-alkyl-18,19- bis - nor - des - A - pregna - 5(10),9(11) - dien- 20-one with a 1-halo-3-chloro-2-butene to form the corresponding 3-chloro-13#-alkyl-18,19-bisnor - 4,5 - seco - pregna - 2,9 - diene - 5,20- dione, reacting the latter with an acid hydrolysing agent to form the corresponding 13#- alkyl 18,19 - bis - nor - 4,5 - seco - pregn - 9 - ene - 3,5,20 - trione, and reacting the latter catalytically with hydrogen so as to form the corresponding 13# - alkyl - 18,19 - bis - nor - 4,5 - seco - pregnan - 3,5,20 - trione.
