Abstract

1,083,612. Cable glands; carrying conductors through partitions. ENFIELD ROLLING MILLS Ltd. May 20, 1964 [June 11, 1963], No. 23233/63. Heading H2E. A clamp or gland for electric cables comprises a bored member 6 having one end counterbored to provide a shoulder 9 normal to the axis of the passage to engage a resilient gasket which is deformed by a tubular member 11 with an annular surface 12 normal to the passage axis for engagement with the surface of the gasket remote from the shoulder and a forwardly-directed projection 13 adjacent the periphery of the annular surface, and an internally screw-threaded nut 15 for urging the tubular member 11 axially forward to increase the radial thickness of the gasket 10. In the first embodiment, the outer insulation 2 is cut back and the cable screening 3 is clamped over a tapered surface 21 of a member 20 by the bored member 6 through a wedge member 26. The other end of member 20 is screwed into an aperture in a wall through which the cable is to be passed. In the second embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), a second gasket and gasketdeforming member provide a moisture-proof seal around the inner insulating sheath of the cable. In the third embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), only the inner insulating sheath of the cable is gripped by means of a gasket and gasket-deforming member as described in the first embodiment.
