Abstract

1,083,682. Dental instruments. G. BERGENDAL. May 10, 1966 [May 20, 1965], No. 20579/66. Heading A5R. A vibratory device for compacting tooth fillings by the longitudinal and transverse vibration of a tool 7 comprises a cam 5 rotated by a driving shaft 2 so that it imparts blows on a plunger 4' which transmits them to the plugging tool 7, the tool 7 being mounted in a holder 6' which is axially slidable in an annular member 11. The plunger is reciprocable by the cam within a bushing 10 in a cylindrical housing 3, the annular member 11 being retained in the housing by a flange 3a. The tool holder 6' is closed at one end 6'a which is struck by a transverse wall 4'a of the plunger as it reciprocates, providing longitudinal vibrations to the tool. A groove 3b is formed between the bushing 10 and the retaining flange 3a, edges of the annular member 11 being received in the groove when the tool is subjected to a lateral load. The central thicker portion of the annular member is surrounded by a conical portion 11b which is engaged by lower edges 4'b of the plunger as it reciprocates. thus tending to centre the annular member when it has been subjected to a lateral load thereby imparting lateral vibrations to the tool.
