Abstract

1,082,779. Liquefied gas storage containers. CHICAGO BRIDGE & IRON CO. Sept. 23, 1965 [Dec. 22, 1964], No. 40690/65. Heading F4P. The flat bottom 11 of a stainless steel or aluminium liquid methane storage tank 10 rests on concrete or wooden covers 23 of a plurality of hollow concrete pillars 20 standing on a concrete levelling pad 18 on an earth foundation 19, and the interior of each pillar and the spaces between are filled with loose heat insulation material, e.g. perlite; the assembly being surrounded by an outer shell 14 with an intervening perlite space 14. The side 12 of tank 10 is tied by bolts 28 embedded in a concrete ring wall 29, and warm air or water pipes 32 within the foundation 19 prevents freezing thereof.
