1,082,619. Pre-emphasis of wide band signals; limiters; pulse shaping. WINSTON RESEARCH CORPORATION. Nov. 1, 1965, No. 46127/65. Headings H3T and H4R. A pre-emphasis circuit, e.g. for use in a frequency modulation system or in magnetic recording, comprises, Fig. 2, a circuit consisting of resistors 102 and 106 and capacitor 104, providing the normal accentuation of high frequencies, followed by an amplitude sensitive integrator which attenuates large amplitude signals of high frequency and comprises the resistor 108, capacitors 112 and 114 and oppositely poled diodes 116 and 118. At the receiver a complementary network is used, Fig. 5, in which the amplitude dependent highfrequency emphasis circuit complementing the amplitude sensitive integrator comprises resistors 302 and 322, capacitor 320, and diodes 326 and 328, and the high-frequency de-emphasis, complementing the accentuation of highfrequencies at the transmitter, comprises capacitor 306 and resistor 303. The capacitor 330 provides neutralization for the capacitance of the diodes 326 and 328. An alternative form of network, Fig. 6 (not shown), has the highfrequency emphasis circuit connected across a negative feedback resistor in the emitter of a transistor amplifier stage with the normal deemphasis components connected in the collector circuit.
