Abstract

1,082,418. Trueing grinding wheels. TOOLMASTERS Ltd. July 22, 1966, No. 33154/66. Addition to 1,044,784. Heading B3D. A method of forming or dressing the peripheral surface of an abrasive wheel or roller 6 comprises grinding the surface to the required predetermined profile with a grinding-wheel 10 having a peripheral grinding surface 12 constituted by abrasive particles embedded in a composition comprising a major proportion of comminuted metal suspended in a hardened synthetic resin. As described, while the abrasive wheel 6 is forming a profile 4 on a rotating workpiece 2, its profile 8 is being continuously dressed by the grinding surface 12 of a dressing wheel 10. The dressing wheel consists of a disc of aluminium with a peripheral layer comprising about 80% of comminuted steel or other conductive metal such as aluminium or copper in a hardened resin such as cured epoxy, polyester or acrylic resin which may include silica as a resin. Diamond dust having a grit size of 80-200 is embedded in the surface.
