Abstract

1,081,675. Moulding grommets. PRECISION RUBBERS Ltd. Dec. 22, 1964 [Jan. 9, 1964], No. 991/64. Heading B5A. [Also in Divisions F2 and H2] A grommet comprises a layer of fabric 11 coated with a layer of cured rubber composition 12, which can be opened into substantially sheet form but which when released wraps around an object to give an overlap of at least half a turn. The grommet can be formed with end flanges. In making the grommet a layer of rubber and fabric are wrapped around a mandrel 14 with a layer 13 of rubber-resistant material disposed therebetween. The assembly is then cured in a mould. The layer 12 can be formed from natural or synthetic polymers, e.g. a silicon or fluorocarbon rubber composition, and the layer 11 from natural or artificial fibres, e.g. polyethylene glycol terephthalate or glass. The layer 13 of rubber-resistant material may be formed from metal foil or a polyester such as terephthalate, nylon or polypropylene.
