Abstract

A dewatering fabric for papermaking and like machines has a non-marking face layer and an open-mesh stiff back layer. The back layer is woven from yarns consisting of or including synthetic thermoplastic material which is subsequently heated with or without solvent to bond the yarns together. The face layer may be integrally woven with the back layer from yarns that are unaffected by the bonding treatment; the face is heavily napped p and the raised fibres then needled back into the fabric, or a separate layer of fibres may be needled to the fabric. Alternatively, the face layer may consist of foamed synthetic resin with interconnected pores applied by pouring on or by laminating. In the two latter cases, the woven fabric may consist of the back layer only.ALSO:A dewatering fabric for papermaking and like machines has a non-marking face layer and a woven open-mesh stiff back layer. In one form, the face layer consists of foamed synthetic resin with interconnected pores applied to the back layer by pouring.
