Abstract

1,080,694. Fusible cut-outs. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. May 20, 1964 [May 20, 1963], No. 19881/63. Heading H2G. In a high voltage fuse of the cartridge type in which the fusible elements are supported on a former inside the hollow body, the former is resiliently secured to the end caps of the body. In the embodiment shown, a ribbed, cylindrical, ceramic former 11 is provided with end caps 14 between which fusible strip elements (12) (Fig. 2), supported on the former 11, are spot-welded. The former 11 has an end bore in which a tapered sleeve section of a conductive member 17 is located by a resilient tapered sleeve 16. A cylindrical section of the member 17 has longitudinal slits (17A) (Fig. 2) spaced around the circumference to provide a tight push fit on an inwardly-directed boss formed on the end cap 22 of the fuse body 10. Electrical connection to the end cap 14 of the former 11 is provided by four equi-spaced flexible strips 18 of silver. A filling of granular arc-inhibiting material is used. A fusible coil 21 of a mechanism for indicating actuation of the fuse is attached to member 17 by a tag 20.
