Abstract
A rotating tube for ringless spinning has a barrel-shaped part 1a for holding and conveying the fibres with a spiral groove 2 on its inner surface and a plurality of holes 5 through the wall of the barrel for admitting air to the interior of the barrel. Each hole extends through the wall of the tube substantially tangentially thereof. The barrel comprises two frusto-conical parts 3a, 3b joined base-to-base and is surmounted by a cylindrical tube 1b held by a magnet 11 against two upper (7, 8) and two lower (9, 10) discs rotated by a belt. Fibres are admitted through the cylindrical part of the tube and withdrawn as yarn below by two rotating rollers 15 in fixed positions. These rollers may withdraw the yarn at the same speed as it is delivered by the groove; the material may be drafted as it is spun by rotating the rollers faster than it is delivered.
