Abstract

An automatic cross-winding machine has a take-up-spool changing arrangement and a device which senses whether the spool is rotating and which prevents the actuation of the changing arrangement until the spool is at least approximately stationary. The sensing device may comprise a Wheatstone bridge arrangement, one resistance of which is cooled by the air currents induced by the rotation of the spool, a lever arrangement, one lever of which is pivoted by the rotation of the spool or an electric generator, comprising a roll rotated by the spool. When the spool stops the sensing device closes a circuit to initiate the changing of the spool. The winding machine as described is otherwise the same as that of Specification 1,077,736, the sensing device closing the circuit which starts the cam shaft rotating.
