Abstract

1,079,784. Punching and shearing. S. SHIOKAWA. Jan. 14, 1965 [Jan. 17, 1964], No. 1690/65. Heading B3W. A mechanical press comprises a C-frame 2 and a ram 1 which reciprocates in guides in the frame. The ram is driven by a bell-crank 7 which is pivotally mounted on a shaft 8. The upper end of the lever is bifurcated to form lugs between which a nut 6 is mounted by stubshafts 6<SP>1</SP>. Through the nut passes a screw 5 which has spherical end surfaces which engage mating surfaces on thrust members 3 and 4. The thrust member 4 is screwed into the upper part and can be removed to expose a socket in the screw 5, which can then be turned by a wrench to displace the ram relative to the lever 7. The lower end of the lever is slotted at 9 and receives a sliding block 10<SP>1</SP> mounted on the crank-pin of a crank-shaft 10 to which is secured a gear-wheel 11. Two idler wheels 12 mesh with the gear 11 and with a pinion 14 mounted on the shaft 16 of a flywheel 15 which is driven by an electric motor and connected to the shaft 16 by a compressed air friction clutch.
