Abstract
1,079,402. Antistatic oriented polypropylene films. BAKELITE XYLONITE Ltd. June 24, 1965 [July 31, 1964], No. 30335/64. Head. ing B5B. A non-plasticizing anti-static agent is applied to the surface of an oriented polypropylene film or to the film before it has been oriented, the film being thereafter oriented, i.e. stretched longitudinally and/or transversely. The oriented film may be treated with an electrical corona discharge before the agent is applied. The agent may be a quaternary ammonium compound, a soap, an alkyl sulphate, a polyhydric alcohol ester of a fatty acid, an alkyl phenol/ ethylene condensate or an imidazole. The anti-static agent may be applied from either a water or a solvent solution or as a melt, e.g. on to an extruded tube which is later inflated to form a tubular film. If the anti-static agent is insoluble in water and/or does not wet the film it may be emulsified in water by means of a wetting agent such as a poloxy alkylene derivative of long chain fatty acids or sodium di-octyl sulpho-succinate.
