Abstract

1,078,784. Clamps; stud and socket fastenings. R. FRITZEN WALLNER. May 20, 1965 [May 21, 1964], No. 21430/65. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] In a clamp for a building scaffold the jaws of the clamp are formed by the head 4 of a clamping bolt 3, and an end of an abutment member 7, a wedge 12 being provided for positioning between the bolt and the abutment member, and one face of the clamping bolt and one face of the wedge each being formed with a plurality of saw-toothed shaped notches 14, 16 respectively, for interengagement with each other, the arrangement being such that in use of the clamp the notches engage with each other and another face of the wedge bears against a surface of the abutment member. As described the member 7 comprises a base plate 8 and a hallow square cross section sleeve 7a. The axes of the notches 14 are inclined at from 72‹ - 80‹ to the longitudinal axis of the bolt. In use the bolt is inserted through aligned apertures 2, 6 in members 1, 5 respectively so that its head 4 engages the member 1, the member 7 is position with the bolt shank within the sleeve 7a, and passing through a hole 7b in the plate 8, and the wedge 12 is inserted via apertures 9 in the sleeve 7a so that the notches 14, 16 interengage, and is driven to clamp the members 1, 5.
