Abstract

1,078,666. Mould and core materials. FOSECO INTERNATIONAL Ltd. July 14, 1965 [Aug. 20, 1964; Nov. 24, 1964; Dec. 31, 1964], Nos. 34116/64, 47774/64 and 53040/64. Heading B3F. To inhibit development of surface cracks when heated by the molten metal, an oil- or resinbonded sand mould or core includes, as an addition to the composition, colemanite and/or unexpanded perlite. Potassium nitrate, barium sulphate, sodium metaphosphate or potassium alum may be further additives. Natural, synthetic or semi-synthetic foundry sand containing less than 5% clay is used, to give a dry compression strength of more than 14 kg./sq. cm. Lead-, tin- or phosphor-bronze or iron may be cast. The sand may be bonded with linseed, tung or oiticica oil or mixtures of these, which may include a cereal carbohydrate and cobalt or lead naphthenate as a hardener or include sodium perborate as an accelerator. Dextrin may be included. It may be bonded with furane or formaldehyde resin used with a diluent such as inert mineral oil or oil product " Dutrex 55 " (Trade Mark).
