1,078,492. Beam-splitters; diaphragms. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 11, 1964 [Feb. 13, 1963], No.5804/63. Heading G2J. An optical system for a camera comprises a lens, means for splitting the emergent beam into two parts, such means including reflecting areas and transmitting areas, and means for adjusting the cross-sectional area of the reflected beam. As shown, the emergent beam from a lens 3 encounters a beam-splitter 5, comprising a series of angularly spaced reflecting elements, which forms two beams 6 and 7, the latter being the reflected beam in which the amount of light is controlled by a diaphragm 9. The system may be used for colour television, one beam being used as the luminance signal and the other further split to produce the colour signals.
