Abstract
1,078,461. Direction indicator switches for road vehicles. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. Dec. 15, 1964 [Jan. 16, 1964], No. 1942/64. Heading G4Q. Operating and return mechanism for a turn indicator switch comprises a ring-shaped member 21a surrounding a shaft 10 coaxial with the steering wheel, the member being pivoted at 21b and being formed integrally with an operating arm 21d and with a pair of resilient arms 21e which co-operate with a striker member 25; the striker member 25 rotates with the steering wheel and re-centres the switch after a turn has been made. A contactpiece 23 bears on a spring extending through a bore in the operating member to a ball 22. In the rest position the ball 22 is seated in a depression 18a in fixed plate 18, but when the switch is operated the ball is moved out of the depression to cause the contact-piece 23 to bridge fixed contacts (not shown). One of the arms 21e then extends into the path of the striker 25 so that it is returned by the return movement of the striker. If the switch is held in an " on " position the arm 21e will deflect but not break so that the steering wheel can return to its central position without causing damage.
