Abstract
1,078,139. Hydraulic actuators: POWER JACKS Ltd. Jan. 27,1966 [Oct. 27, 1964], No. 43784/64. Heading F1P. Cushioning near the end of the working stroke of a hydraulic ram (26) supplied by a pump (12) delivering through a line (3) and a spool valve (2) when opened against a biasing spring by low pressure fluid admitted through a line (6) to one end of the spool (9) is effected by abutment of the ram rod (24) against the rod (25) of a spring- biased piston (22) within a buffer cylinder (20) and the resulting increase in cylinder space (21) serves to relieve pressure at the said end of the spool (9) to which space (21) is connected by a line (27) thereby allowing the spool valve to be returned by its spring to the closed position. The other end of low pressure line (6) is connected to one end of a master cylinder (8) having a doubleskirted piston (14) which when displaced to the right against a spring pressurizes fluid in line (6). The lower end of valve spool (9) is relieved through a line (7), a port (15) in, the other skirt of piston (14) a cylinder port (18) and a line (11) connected to a sump (13). The high pressure supply line (3) is connected to sump (13) by a by-pass (11) having a shut-off valve (10) which is automatically closed on displacement of piston (14) to the ram-actuating position.
