Abstract

1,078,153. Turbine blades. L. BULLOCK May 10, 1966 [Feb. 10, 1965], No. 5705/65. Heading FIT. A turbine blade having a bridge piece attached to each face of the blade has the free end of each bridge piece coated with a wear resistent layer in the form of a particulate material distributed in a base medium. The construction reduces wear when the bridge pieces of adjacent rotor blades in a gas turbine rub together during blade vibration. The particulate material may be natural or synthetic diamond, sapphire, boron or silicon nitride or boron carbide. The base material may be a ceramic or a metal similar to that of the blade and bridge pieces, e. g. titanium, a nickel-chromium alloy, or an aluminium alloy.
