Abstract

Materials are rendered anti-electrostatic by treating them with salts of (a) acids or acid esters of the formula RY wherein R represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl or alkaryl radical and Y represents -SO2OH, -OSO2OH, -OPO(OH)2 or -OPO(OH)(OR1) where R1 independently of R, represents an alkyl, cycloalkyl aralkyl, aryl or alkaryl radical, and (b) (i) monoamines of the general formula R1 R2 R3 N wherein R1 is a group of the formula:-(CH2CH2-O)n-CH2CH2-OH wherein n is a number from 1 to 99; R2 is H, alkyl or a group of the above formula, and R3 is H, alkyl or a group of the above formula; or (ii) polyamines containing a grouping (R)2N(CH2CH2 NH)xCH2CH2N(R)2 in which at least one R represents (CH2CH2O)nCH2CH2OH wherein n is a number from 1 to 99 and the other R's are hydrogen or alkyl groups and x is a number from 0 to 3. The salts may be applied in an amount of 0.1% by weight of the material to be treated. Examples are given where polyacrylonitrile fibres, knitted goods of polyamide or polyacrylonitrile fibres and a washed fabric of polyacrylonitrile are treated.
