Abstract

1,076,189. Clocks and watches. R.W. REICH. Dec. 17, 1963 [Jan. 7, 1963], No. 49750/63. Heading G3T. An electric timepiece driving arrangement is of the kind in which a driving coil A in circuit with an exciting coil E co-operates with a magnetic member to impulse a balance 10, 12. The magnetic means includes first and second magnetic portions displaced by 180‹ about the axis of the balance. The first magnetic portion interacts with the exciting coil and the second magnetic portion is arranged so that it cannot produce an exciting pulse in the coil E. As shown, the exciting coil comprises two distinct coils so connected that a resultant exciting pulse is produced by the magnets 16, 18, 22, 24 at one end of a diameter of the balance. At the other end, two magnets 14, 20 are impulsed by the driving pulse in coil A. When the balance has rotated through 180‹ from the position shown, no resultant exciting pulse is produced. In another embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown) a bar magnet of the balance is pivoted at its centre. This magnet has a free or effective pole at one end only. The other end is recessed and a small reversed magnet inserted to neutralize the pole at that end. In another arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown) the exciting coil (E) is of larger size than the driving coil (A, not shown) at the opposite end of the balance. In the position illustrated, an exciting pulse is produced, and the driving coil co-operates only with the inner pair of the concentrically arranged magnets adjacent the coil to impulse the balance. When the balance has rotated 180‹ the larger coil E co-operates with both pairs of the concentric magnets and no resultant exciting pulse is produced. In another form Fig. 5 (not shown) the magnet with the neutralized pole is positioned inside box-shaped exciting and driving coils (E, A). The exciting coil E is positioned intermediate two separate portions of the driving coil (A). A similar magnet may co-operate with coaxially arranged exciting and driving coils of different diameters, Fig. 6 (not shown), or be placed within a ring-shaped member carrying the coils, Fig. 4 (not shown).
