Abstract

1,075,315. Homogenizing liquid flows. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 3, 1966 [Feb. 18, 1965], No. 7079/65. Heading B1C. In a process for improving the homogeneity of a liquid laminar flow having a plurality of distinct parts, the flow is split up into more than two sub-flows which are recombined by adding each to another, or to a combination of sub-flows, individually. In the case of a very viscous liquid the adjacent layers in the final product will be thinner. As shown the flow 5 may be distributed by a conical member 8 and sub-divided into a plurality of sub-flows by passages 9 of differing lengths, so that the sub-flows are successively recombined in a central passageway 11. In operation the passageways 9 are arranged so that each carries the same proportion of each of the desparate parts of the flow, and sized so that each passageway, or series of passageways, carries the same volume per unit time. The apparatus may be built up from annular washers each with a sector removed, see Figs. 3-5 (not shown).
