Abstract
A solution of a modified unsaturated polyester resin is made by reacting an unsaturated polyester resin containing free -OH groups with the reaction products containing free -NCO groups derived from an organic polyisocyanate and a monohydroxyl compound optionally in the presence of an inert solvent and mixing the resulting modified polyester resin with at least one monomeric vinyl, vinylidene and/or allyl compound and an inhibitor of radical catalysed polymerization. In a modification the unsaturated polyester resin and the reaction product of the polyisocyanate and monohydroxyl compound are reacted in solution in the monomeric polymerizable, vinyl, vinylidene and/or allyl compound. The unsaturated polyester resin may be a condensation product of an a ,b -unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and/or an anhydride thereof with a polyhydric alcohol.
