Abstract

1,075,154. Seats. MINISTER OF PUBLIC BUILDING & WORKS. Aug. 24, 1964 [May 24, 1963], No. 20792/63. Heading A4J. A movable board 3 is connected to a couch or chair frame 4 so that a person on the couch can be supported on cushions 5, 6 in any one of a number of positions. Fixed on both sides of frame 4 are castings 9 in which are formed arcuate slots 10 having their arc centres where the top surfaces of cushions 5, 6 meet. Sliding in each of the slots 10 are at least two dowels (12) Fig. 2 (not shown) carried by wings 13 depending from supports 14 which are fixed to the movable board 3. Ratchet teeth 15 are engaged by locking rods 16 carried in supports 14 and releasable by a handle 20. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), one of two dowels (29) connected to movable board (24) engages teeth (32) on a ratchet arm (31) pivoted to a fixed part of the couch. Another method of positioning dowels (39), Fig. 6 (not shown); is to providt a number of projections (40) adjacent the arcuate slots to engage shaped ends (43) of a forked link (44) slidably carried by a movable board (45).
