Abstract
1,074,998. Batteries. GRUB ENLAMPENWERKE ZWICKAU VEB. Oct. 14, 1965, No. 43549/65. Heading H1B. In a gas-tight acid or alkaline accumulator having no free electrolyte the inner walls of the casing form an auxiliary electrode which is electrically connected to the electrodes of one polarity and is electrolytically connected by an electrolyte impregnated porous material to the electrodes of the opposite polarity. The auxiliary electrode absorbs evolved gas and the porous material is stated to prevent water produced from falling to the bottom of the casing and thus covering the exposed surfaces of the electrodes and preventing them from absorbing gas. The casing itself may be of metal or may be an insulator internally coated with a gas absorbing metal, e.g. sintered nickel, silver, cadmium. The porous material may be fabric or a fleecy type of material. Polyamide fibres are specified for a nickel-cadmium alkaline accumulator.
