Abstract
1,074,231. Liquid-liquid extractor. EUROCAN INVESTMENT CORPORATION. June 8, 1964 [June 26, 1963], No. 23633/64. Heading B1F. [Also in Division F4] In a device suitable for use as a heat exchanger, or a liquid liquid extractor, liquid is introduced into a chamber and forms a surface coating 2 on vertical or inclined elements 10 in the chamber, and a second liquid 4 is introduced, preferably in the opposite direction to that of the liquid, and passes over the surface coating of the liquid. The elongated elements may be in the form of solid or hollow rods, wires or strands, e.g. glass rods or enamelled wire. Figure 2 shows a heat exchanger having a housing 70 with an outer thick jacket 72 and an inner thin jacket separated by an inert liquid such as paraffin at the same pressure as that within the chamber. Two groups of rods 86 extend through a series of apertured plates 90 which act as baffles for the liquid and are vertically staggered on a central post 104 to provide a continuous path for the fluid. The liquid may flow downwardly by gravity or upwardly by buoyancy.
