Abstract
The surfaces of tungsten bodies are polished by putting the degreased bodies into an aqueous solution containing at least one oxidizing and at least one alkaline component in such a molar ratio that the oxide layer formed by the oxidizing component and part of the alkaline component is dissolved by the rest of the alkaline component. For example, tungsten spirals for valves are placed into an aqueous solution containing NaOH or KOH and K3Fe (CN)6. The molar ratio may be kept constant by continuously measuring electrochemically the concentration of the polishing solution and supplementing consumed alkaline component and anodically oxidizing reduced oxidizing component.
