A building component forming a column supporting a beam is preferably of wood and comprises two splayed trapezoidal panels 1, 2 secured to a head bar 3 and a shoe 4. Each panel may comprise a plywood sheet, or pair of sheets, in a rebated wooden frame 7, 8. Preferably one of the panel edges is vertical. Pairs of components may support a number of parallel roof beams, each beam being of hollow triangular section comprising a base 20, Fig. 6, webs 22, 23 and head 21. Longitudinal ledgers, Figs. 5, 7 (not shown) may be provided along the outside of the beam to support horizontal roof panels. A long beam may be built from two short beams interconnected by a splice-piece of triangular section.
