Abstract
1,072,522. Cooling fluorescent discharge lamps. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 9, 1964 [April 9, 1963], No. 14141/63. Heading H1D. [Also in Division F4] A low-pressure, tubular, mercury-vapour fluorescent lamp (1, Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) is mounted within a fitting (2) which constitutes a transparent or translucent diffuser, and which has a central nozzle (6) beneath the lamp, and apertures (4, 5) above the lamp, to promote cooling, by convection, of the central portion of the lamp envelope. In further embodiments two or three lamps are mounted in a single housing having a corresponding number of apertures (Figs. 4 and 6, not shown) which latter may be in the form of slits having upstanding walls (Figs. 6 and 7, not shown).
