Abstract
1,072,301. Feeding webs. ARENCO AKTIEBOLAG. May 10, 1965 [May 14, 19641, No. 19577/65. Heading B6B. A photo-electric cell senses registration marks on a web 2 being advanced by a pair of feed rollers to a rotary transverse cutter 6. The feed rollers are driven by the output of a differential (19, Fig. 2), one input of which is geared directly to the drive of the cutter 6, the other input of which is geared to the drive of the cutter via gears 20, 21, 23, a variator 24, an electromagnetic coupling and brake 37, 38 and a worm screw and gear 40, 41. The variator 24 comprises a steplessly controllable transmission having friction surfaces connected to each one of the input and output shafts and adjustable movement transmission members for setting to an arbitrary ratio the input r.p.m. and the output r.p.m., and is used to control the amount of overspeed (or underfeed) of the web. A correction is made for miss-register by energizing the brake 38 to stop the worm screw 40. This occurs when a signal from the photo-electric cell detecting a web registration mark coincides with the closing of a switch 60 by a cam 61 on the drive-shaft of the cutter 6. This results in the firing of a thyratron amplifier 62 which allows the coil 58 of a relay 54 to energize, which via a relay 50, results in the de-energization of the electromagnetic coupling 37 and the energization of the electromagnetic brake 38. When correction is not required, relay 50 is held energized by coil 51 via contacts 53 and 55, having been initially energized by coil 52 via cam-operated switch 56. The coupling 37 will remain energized via contact 47, until miss-registration of the web is detected. When a correction is made, a positive voltage is applied via line 76 to the initial stage of a visual stepping register, Fig. 4 (not shown). For each revolution of the cutter 6, the indicator (an energized electric light bulb) is stepped to the next position in the register. Thus the number of revolutions of the cutter per correction is indicated.
