Abstract
1,072,396. Rock drills. SIBIRSKY GOSUDARSTVENNY PROEKTNO-KONSTRUKTORSKY EXPERIMENTALNY INSTITUTE MASHINOSTROENIYA. Dec. 3, 1963, No. 47610/63. Heading B3C. A rock drill comprises an hydraulic feed cylinder 3, Fig. 1, for drill 6, the cylinder also transmitting torque to the drill. The cylinder is rotated by an electric motor 1 through a reduction gear 2 and a piston 4 connected to the drill, slides in a square bore in the cylinder, and is rotated thereby. Fluid is supplied to the ends of cylinder 3 for feeding the drill by a distributer 9, and also through a channel 11 in rod 5, for flushing the drilled hole. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the drill is releasably clamped by identical clamps (17) and (18). Clamp 17 comprises a piston (19) which moves in a direction normal to the drill axis. Inside piston (19) is a clamping sleeve (21), having a trapezoidal bore which surrounds rod (5). In operation, fluid passes on to the top of the piston (19), which moves downwardly to clamp rod (5). Clamp (18) is unclamped and the drill is fed. After the drilling is completed, clamp (18) is actuated, clamp (17) is released, and piston (4) is retracted to its initial position. A shank (26) is detached to allow splicing of the drilling rods. To dismount the drilling rods, sleeves (27), (28) which mesh wire clamping sleeves (21), (22), are rotated, to rotate the latter through 180 degrees, so as to reverse the action of the clamps.
