Abstract
Gelatine layers are hardened by incorporating in the layer one or more 2:3-dichloroquinoxalines substituted in the benzene ring by a chlorosulphonyl or chlorocarbonyl group and optionally also by halogen, alkyl or alkoxy. The quinoxalines may be incorporated directly into a gelatine solution or emulsion as a solution in a ketone, or the solution in a ketone may be first added to a preliminary gelatine solution wherein a reaction product of the quinoxaline with gelatine is formed and the preliminary solution then added to the emulsion.
