An alkaline accumulator (specifically Ni/Cd) has plate electrodes with a deposit of active material thereon, that on the positive being 0À04-0À4 mm. thick, that on the negative being 0À03-0À4 mm. thick the thickness of the layers being chosen so that the ratio of the discharge capacity of the negative to the positive is from 1 to 4. The interleaved electrodes and separators are coiled. The deposit is compacted by pressure exerted on the assembled electrode preparator stack.
