Abstract

A threaded coupling comprises a first carbon body having external first screw-threading formed thereon, and a second carbon body having internal second screw-threading formed therein and in screw-threaded engagement with said first threading, there being between a portion of said first threading and that threading of said second carbon body in threaded engagement with said portion a difference in pitch of 0.05-5%, preferably 0.1-2%, and which preferably extends over the entire common extent of the engaged threadings. The pitch of one or both of the bodies may be constant. There may also be a third carbon body with internal screw-threading in engagement with the external threading of the first body, having a pitch differing as that of the second body. One or each of the bodies which has a higher coefficient of thermal expansion preferably has thread of greater pitch. If there are three bodies, the threading of the first body is preferably of greater pitch than that of the second and third bodies.
