Abstract

1,070,771. Tunnelling machines. JAMES S. ROBBINS & ASSOCIATES, Inc. May 11, 1964 [May 31, 1963], No. 19441/64. Heading E1F. Within the leading end of a shield and on the front of pressure tight transverse bulkhead as in the referred to Specification 19443/64 is rotatably mounted a cutterhead having a cutter armed leading face about the periphery of which are a series of circumferentially spaced buckets with which are associated discharge chutes leading through the interspace between the front and rear of the cutterhead, the chutes terminating in a central chamber of the head for removal by conveyer means extending from the chamber rearwards through the bulkhead to beyond the rear of the shield.
