Abstract
The invention comprises couplers for a colour photographic material of the formula <FORM:1070768/C4-C5/1> wherein R represents a branched chain alkyl group having 6 or more carbon atoms and R1 represents an alkyl group of 1-4 carbon atoms. Couplers of the above formula in which R represents 2-ethylhexyl and R1 represents CH3, C2H5 or C3H7, and in which R represents 2-methylnonyl and R1 represents CH3 may be obtained by coupling the appropriately substituted diazotized aniline with the appropriate 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid amide (see Division C2 for preparation). Other couplers of the above formula specified are couplers in which (a) R represents 2-methyl-pentyl and R1 represents C3H7, (b) R represents 1,3-dimethylbutyl and R1 represents butyl, and (c) R represents 2-ethyl-decyl and R1 represents CH3. The couplers may be incorporated in colour photograph materials (see Division G2).ALSO:2 - (N - 21 - ethylhexyl - or N - 21 - methylnonyl - carbamoyl) - 1 - naphthol is obtained by heating 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid phenyl ester with 2-ethylhexylamine or 2-methylnonylamine, distilling off the phenol, cooling and isolating the product. The compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of colour couplers (see Division C4).
