Abstract

1,070,380. Cathode-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 14, 1964 [Dec. 16, 1963], No. 50773/64. Heading HID. A pick-up tube using a scanning beam of lowvelocity electrons, and comprising a collimating lens 5a-5d between two pairs of electrostatic deflection plates 3, 4 and a photoconductive, or photoemissive mosaic, target 6, also comprises a focusing electrode 8a at the exit end of the deflection system of a shape and potential such that the virtual deflection centres of the two pairs of plates 3, 4 coincide with one another, and with the focus of the collimating lens, in the region of electrode 2b. As shown, the deflecting electrodes are mounted within a metal cylinder 7 connected to accelerating electrodes 2, 2b, 2c, a further electrode 2a being insulated from cylinder 7 to permit corrections of astigmatism. Electrode 8a is formed as a channel of rectangular, cylindrical or polygonal cross-section, with an elongated slit 8d, and is mounted on, but maintained at a higher potential than electrode 2c which has a mesh 10 across its aperture. Specific dimensions and operating potentials are given.
