[Also in Division E2] Filter cells 21, comprising media 24 within rectangular frames 23, are mounted in apertures formed by a supporting frame 22 which carries latching means 30..35 for retaining the cells in place. Frame 22 may form the wall or ceiling of a room (Figs. 1, 2 not shown), the cells being "absolute filters" (retaining 99.97% of particles of 0.3 microns upwards) forming part of an air conditioning system for. an operating theatre or industrial clean room and being used in series with a blower and prefilter, the opposite wall or floor of the room comprising the return path grills. Frame 22 is of T-shaped section, the hollow section 50 enclosing latches, each comprising a bolt 30 whose rotation advances or retracts a collar 33 carrying spring-loaded pawls 34, 35 which in their uppermost position project through apertures 27 to engage frames 23 of two adjacent cells 21, further turning of bolt 30 pressing frames 23 upwards to seal against flange 26 through gaskets 37. With the pawls retracted (dotted lines) housing 41 prevents them turning within section 50, and the cells rest on retainer 40, which may be turned through 90‹ to release the cells completely. The latch illustrated has two pawls to engage two adjacent cells, but latches on the peripheral elements of supporting frame 22 would have single pawls only, to engage one cell each.
