Abstract

1,069,993. Melt-spinning polyamide-polyolefine mixtures. KURASHIKI RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. May 22, 1964 [May 24, 1963], No. 21327/64. Heading B5B. In melt-spinning a mixture of (A) a polyamide (or a predominantly polyamidic cocondensate) and (B) a polyolefine -(or a predominantly polyolefinic copolymer), which mixture contains more than 20% by weight of constituent A, a cylindrical zone extending downwards from the face of the spinneret in the spinning direction and 0À4 cm. to 7 cm. from the face of the spinneret is artificially cooled to such a degree that the temperature of every point in the zone is at least 10‹ C., and preferably at least 20‹ C. lower than it would be if no artificial cooling were applied to the zone, but the extent of the cooling is not so great as to cool any point in the zone to a temperature below room temperature. Constituent (A) of the mixture may be nylon 6, nylon-6,6, nylon- 7, nylon-11, methoxymethylated nylon, or a mixture of two or more of these nylons. Constituent (A) may be a predominantly polyamidic co-condensate including ether, ester or urea bonds. Constituent (A) may have a melting point of over 160‹ C. Constituent (B) may be polypropylene, polyethylene, a polyethylene/ polypropylene copolymer, or a copolymer of propylene or ethylene with a sulphonatecontaining monomer, vinyl chloride or acrylonitrile. The cylindrical zone extending from the spinneret face may be cooled by directing on to it a stream of air or other gas or by circulating a cooling liquid through a jacket surrounding the zone.
