Abstract

1,069,814. Variable-speed gears; epicyclic gears. W. BLAZO. Aug. 26, 1964, No. 35059/64. Headings F2D and F2Q. A two-stage epicyclic gear, which is stated to provide speeds varying automatically from zero to direct drive, operates by virtue of internal friction, and comprises coaxial input, output, and intermediate shafts 11, 12, 13 respectively, all freely rotatable in a coaxial rotatable housing 10, each stage comprising an inclined crank 40 (60) of the input (intermediate) shaft carrying a freely rotatable pair of gears 47, 48 (67, 68) fast together, the outer bevel gear 48 (68) meshing with a bevel gear 50 (70) fast in the housing, and the inner crown gear 47 (67) meshing with a bevel gear 49 (69) fast on the intermediate (output) shaft and coaxial therewith. The housing may be held stationary for a fixed reduction ratio.
