1,068,939. Vacuum refuse collecting means. JOHNSTON BROS. (ENGINEERING) Ltd. H. G. SMALLWOOD, P. B. HIRST and A. D. COLLINS. Nov. 21, 1963 [Aug. 21, 1962], No. 7577/65. Divided out of 32046/62. Heading E1G. A refuse collecting nozzle 10 carried on trolley wheels 26 is vertically adjustable relative to the wheels to vary the distance of at least part of the nozzle from the ground. The nozzle 10 is pivotally mounted by trunnions 11 in a fork 12 rigid with a towbar 14 articulated to a collecting vehicle. A longitudinally resilient link 18 is connected to the front of the nozzle at 16 and to a forked member 20 pivoted on the fork 12, a control rod 25 providing adjustment of the link and nozzle relative to the fork 12. The link 18 may be replaced by adjustable tension springs 9 and the position of the nozzle determined by adjusting screws 27 between the rear of the nozzle and the wheels 26. The screws 27 may be operated individually to bolt the nozzle on a longitudinal axis.
